Testimonials

Mulling over Chhaya's paintings I find the same delicacy of treatment and romantic delineation which I spotted on the "Marwar" over. Chhaya captures these lovely women in different exciting postures. Sometimes they are chatting with each other, sometimes they are sitting in statuesque poses, sometimes they are even bearing children. Chhaya's colour schemes are positively attractive. What hypnotises the viewer is however, the mangle of these women's eyes. I look upon them all as fairy-tale creatures The carthen pots, the architectural details of the backgrounds stamp upon our minds the authentic indigenousness of these studies. Chhaya's pictures are rooted in the soil and because of the women's costumes and decorative ornaments, they echo down the corridors of Rajput history. This is a touching aspect of all these paintings. They are doubly beautiful in the appearances of Chhaya's handsome creations and also in the manner they will haunt us."
DNYANESHWAR NADKARNI

Abhimanyu learnt part of the chakravyuh secret while still in unborn fetus.. Chhaya Parekh-Wadhawan found her inspiration for painting in a similar manner - "My mother spent long hours doing oil paintings on wooden boards when she was expecting me." the painter says. "Maybe that's why, even as a child of two I used to try to scribble, draw eyes." Through school chhaya spent all her free time, as well as during the dictation classes, for doodling and drawing, it is only recently that she has taken up painting as her profession. Her paintings have the same air of make believe the ad world loves to create in its campaigns where she has modelled over 200 ads.. Fascinated as she is by women Chhaya decks them in languorous airs, clothes them in mystical overtones, and creates portraitures of the quintessential mystie of womanhood. Her women are dreamy, large-eyed, perfect of face and limb, clothed in intricate ethnic costumes, bedecked with flowers and jewellery. Princesses you would say, of a bygone era. Nostalgia and mystery evoked to create romance. And a compulsion to gaze on. Thus a desire to buy."
